How to install your eSIM on Android (Samsung, Pixel, others)

Menu names vary between Android brands. These steps use Samsung and Google Pixel wording.

Before you start

  • Connect your phone to Wi-Fi. Installing needs an internet connection.
  • Open your QR code on another screen. It is in your eSIM email and on your order page.
  • Check when your plan starts. If it starts when installed, wait until you are ready to use it.

The quick way: the install button

Reading your eSIM email or order page on the phone itself? Tap Install on Android and follow the prompts (Android 10 or later).

Install with the QR code

  1. Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager on Samsung, or Settings > Network & internet > SIMs on Pixel. Other phones may call it SIM card manager or Mobile network.
  2. Tap Add eSIM. Some phones call it Add SIM, Download a SIM or Scan QR code.
  3. Scan the QR code. If scanning fails, choose to enter the code manually and type the details exactly as shown.
  4. Confirm, wait for the download, and name the line "Travel" if your phone offers it.
  5. Leave calls and text messages on your own SIM, so your usual number keeps working.

A few phones allow only one active eSIM at a time, so you may need to turn another eSIM off first.

When you arrive

  1. Turn the travel eSIM on in SIM manager (Samsung) or SIMs (Pixel).
  2. Set Mobile data to the travel eSIM.
  3. Turn on roaming for it: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Data roaming on Samsung, or SIMs, the travel eSIM, Roaming on Pixel.
  4. If your phone has an automatic data switching option, turn it off.

Installed early on a plan that starts on first connection? Keep the travel eSIM off until you land.

If something goes wrong

  • The eSIM cannot be added: switch to stable Wi-Fi, restart the phone and try again.
  • The QR code will not scan: make the QR code brighter and bigger, or enter the details manually.
  • No data: check roaming and mobile data are set to the travel eSIM and you are in a covered country, then switch airplane mode on and off.

Many QR codes work only once, so do not delete the eSIM to start again.
