Top up or buy a new plan?
A top-up adds more data to the eSIM that is already installed on your phone. A new plan is a separate eSIM, with its own QR code, that you install next to the one you have.
Top up when
- You are staying in the places your current plan covers and just need more data or more days.
- Your plan takes top-ups. When the network has confirmed it, the plan page says Top-ups available or No top-ups on this plan.
- Your eSIM is still valid, or it is still inside its top-up window after expiry. Some plans allow top-ups for a limited time after they end, and the top-up options stay on your order page during that time.
A top-up needs no new QR code and no reinstall. Nothing on your phone changes: the same eSIM line simply has data again. Each package shows how much data it adds, for how many days, and its price before you pay. On plans with a phone number, some packages also add minutes or texts, and each option says what it includes.
Top-up packages are priced separately from the plan you first bought, so they don't always cost the same.
Buy a new plan when
- You are going somewhere your current plan does not cover. A top-up never changes where an eSIM works.
- Your plan cannot be topped up. Your order page or the top-up page tells you so.
- Your eSIM has expired and has no top-up window, or the window has ended.
- Your eSIM was cancelled.
A new plan means a new eSIM to install. You can keep both eSIMs on your phone and choose which one carries your data in your phone's settings.
